Reiki For Morning Dove

I walked by the window and saw this bird sitting on the bowl. I didn't think too much of it at the time as there are loads of birds that come and drink from the 3 different bowls of water I keep filled for them. At that time I was working on setting up the new cage for Lena and was going back and forth to the garage for various items.

When I realized that this same bird had been sitting there for quite a while I decided to take a moment and offer Reiki to him/her. It did look a bit rough, traumatized, or just not doing well. I really wasn't sure. So I spent 7-10 minutes with him, asked that it be on automatic pilot and then went to continue my project for Lena.

Each time I walked by he/she was still there. I guess it was around 3-315p when I first noticed him/her. When I was finished with Lena's new cage it was about 430p. That's when I knew he/she really wasn't doing well. I was sitting by the door and out of the corner of my eye I saw the bird move. I guess it had a seizure or passed and fell off the bowl. I'm not sure which. I went and grabbed a towel so I could catch the bird if it was still alive. When I went out the bird was very still. I called my daughter and we talked about it. I toweled the bird and we realized that it had passed.

It's hard to figure out how I feel about this. Part of me is glad and touched that the bird choose my yard to find solace in and that he/she was protected and undisturbed during that time. The other part is a little distraught. Since I've moved here it's felt like I'm some sort of Angel of Death.

First I had to take my Aunt and Uncle's dog in for euthanasia. Then my Aunt passed and then 3 1/2 months later my Uncle passes. Now I'm here with my Mom and not sure how long she will be here. This past year I would have said she was going to pass soon due to surgeries etc. But now I'm just not sure.

Back to the dove and I will bury him/her tomorrow. We had a storm at the time of the bird's passing so I couldn't do it then. I hope I can dig a hole deep enough for it. It's still in the 90's right now.

Scheduling an Animal Reiki session

Wonderful! I'm so happy you've decided to move forward and schedule an Animal Reiki session for your beloved friend with fur, feathers, fins, shells or scales.

At this time distance sessions work best for me unless you live in El Paso, TX or the Las Cruces, NM area. Traveling to your location can always be discussed if that is something you are interested in.

Distance sessions typically last 15-30 minutes depending upon the animals receptivity and how they dictate the session to go. Sometimes it can be a little longer.

The charge for a single distance session is $35
This will include a phone chat or email with you to discuss your pet and what your concerns are. There will be contact after to let you know how the session went.

A series of 4 is $135
Package of 4 - once weekly is $135
10 minute Reiki session where I send your animal Reiki at the time of my choosing is $13.50

A photo is helpful along with the animal's name so that I can really focus on them since I am a visual type person. These can be emailed or texted to me.
You can email me at appts@gr8fuljourney.com or use the contact form.

Animal Reiki, what's that?

Animal Reiki is a non-invasive, gentle, energy modality that offers a space of healing, that can bring your pet back into alignment and balance. It is a modality often used effectively in conjunction with traditional veterinary medicine and other modalities like acupressure, acupuncture, and/or water therapy.

So what is this Reiki thing?  I'm one of those very touchy feely (I know it's not spelled right but it's who I am) type of people. So putting into words what Reiki is poses a challenge. For me, Reiki is what I can feel and what I can see happening that validates Reiki is indeed real. It's not just some woowoo trendy thing that all the "new agers" are talking about and experimenting with. Reiki was started in Japan by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century and was used for spiritual development as well as for helping people heal themselves. Today Reiki is finally being recognized as a true alternative modality for healing that is being offered in more and more hospitals around the US. It is wonderful for helping individuals going through cancer treatments. It is definitely relaxing, calming and in some cases fosters healing results. Currently there are Veterinarians and shelters that also provide Reiki services.

Animals are very intuitive and can sense the energy of Reiki usually faster than humans do. They have an innate understanding of the energy and once it is recognized, the animals will often open and accept the energy. Reiki is offered in a way that allows each animal to dictate how a session will go. A session is not like a traditional Reiki session for either you or I. We enjoy laying on a table and relaxing and possibly having a hands on session. Hands on is really just gently placing the hands on different areas of the body. In the case of people, the client would be fully clothed and the hands on would be on the body or a few inches off the body. It is always offered with respect and permission of the client. For animals, I ask, either out loud or silently, if they want Reiki and then they can choose if they want to be close or across the room or area for in-person sessions. It is best if they can move around whatever space they are in. Very often they will relax into the energy and enjoy a "Reiki Nap". There are times when they do not want Reiki and that is perfectly acceptable. It is really their choice, probably one of the few things that they do have a choice with. This time together can be 15-45 minutes depending on what the individual animal wants.

Reiki is also available via a distant session. There is no time or space for energy. I'm sure you've walked into a room and all of a sudden felt that something was off. Maybe the room felt heavy or dense. Perhaps when you visit a favorite cafe, store, library, or someplace similar, the space is lovely and makes you feel good just being there. That's the energy! It's the collective energy of who has been there and what has transpired in that space. Energy just flows and all is connected.  So when the animal senses the Reiki energy flowing to them, then they can choose to receive or not. As always, it's up to them. A distance session is usually 15-30 minutes.

Let's say your dog is recovering from surgery or you've had to go out of town and leave him or her in a kennelWhen you bring the animal home, it is often a little apprehensive or under the weather. In this scenario, I would recommend a series of 4 sessions to start with, then re-assess the animal’s needs.

If your cat was adopted from a shelter and is having trouble adjusting to his new life in your home then we would start with a series of 4 sessions and then continue with one additional treatment a week for a while and then see how this new family member is doing. A once a week session can be wonderful even for a healthy pet to keep them tuned up, so to speak. It would be similar for us to go for a message once a week.

There was an Irish Wolfhound that I worked with for several months. She had developed some spinal issues which were better after visiting a veterinarian and after receiving a few acupuncture treatments. But the treatments were expensive; so I started working with her. The dog was a bit unsure at first. The breed is usually a little stand offish to people they don't know well, so I wasn't surprised. She would lay down away from me; but overtime she would come closer. Sometimes she would come very close; other times she would stay at a distance. Most of the time she ended up taking a Reiki nap. There was one particular session where I was a few feet away from where she was laying down. She then looked over her shoulder at me as if to say, “Ok what are you doing over there? Please come over here and give me hands on.”  I went to her and she loved the hands on session. She was able to go up and down stairs without too much trouble and could jump up on her owner when she saw him. That was something they cherished together and you could see that they loved each other very much.

I worked with Bellagio, an elderly horse for close to a year. He was a white horse and had cancer that was spreading throughout his body. He had several tumors that were growing in size. He was such a sweet boy and really loved his person, a young girl that was in high school. When she would arrive at the barn he would stand a little taller and be more alert. I really think he was hanging on for her. He became a hospice patient for me and I did sessions with him 3-4 times a week. He would really relax and sometimes lay down and then take a nap. There was only one time when he didn't want any Reiki and that was ok. The Reiki sessions allowed him to tolerate pain better and helped him wait until the owner was ready to let him go and have him euthanized. I was with him at that time for the owner and offered Reiki during Bellagio’s transition. He was very calm and went peacefully.

Roxie was another favorite ‘big’ dog that I worked with for a long period of time. She had a TPLO surgery for a torn ligament a while before I started doing Reiki with her. She was a Reiki sponge. She loved our sessions and would position herself part-way in my lap so I could get my hands on her. She would nap and then shift her position and then go back to sleep. Her mobility did improve and she was able to jump into her owner's truck. She would smile and wag her whole body when she would see me and put her back side right in my hands. She is such a lovely dog.

So with all this being said would you be interested in an Animal Reiki session for your beloved friend with fur, feathers, fins, or scales? Pleae see Scheduling An Animal Reiki Session for more information and to schedule a session with me.

A New Animal Reiki Test Project Part 1

The title sounds a bit weird but it's accurate and a bit of a story.

On 7/3/17 I was running errands and had been to Best Buy to pick up something the ATT repairman would need on 7/5/17. I was all set and going to head back to the house. But no, I was in the big parking lot for all these stores and decided that since I was driving by Office Depot I would stop and pick up a refill for a stamp pad. Random need and not necessary at 330p the day before the 4th.

I park and as I'm walking in I hear this cry. I thought it was a bird but as I kept hearing it I realized it was a cat. I walk back to see if I can find it and under the car in front of where I'd parked was a kitten. She was so very little. I started Reiki for her highest and best.

Now please understand that the temperature was around 103 and the pavement was so hot. I was very worried for the kittens paws being burnt from the hot pavement. I tried to get her out but she stayed right in the middle. Luckily several people saw me, can't image how I must have looked, and they came to help. It took a bit but we finally captured her. I had one of those neck things to keep you cool in the car and burrito wrapped her in it. One couple went into Office Depot and got me a box to put her in and then we sealed it up.

I continued offering Reiki to this little kitten for her highest and best. I was talking to her and she was so still and quite that I ended up opening the box. I was concerned that due to the stress that she had passed. She looked at me but clearly was done in.

My daughter was helping me find rescue organizations to call so I could take her somewhere. I was able to talk with a couple of people but they only dealt with wild animals. One of them told me that Animal Services here was a no kill shelter. No other rescue organization answered their phone.

I kept talking to her and kept the Reiki flowing as I drove to Animal Services.
At one point while I was driving I looked at her through the hole that served as a handle. She had moved and was laying there watching me. Very calm and quiet but watching. I was thrilled that she was ok and not trying to get out while I was driving.

We arrive at Animal Services about 430p and thank goodness they were still open. They told me that if she couldn't be adopted they would put her back where I found her. I said ok and left her. Here is the only photo I got from that day when I was leaving her. I didn't want to but knew she needed to be looked at by a vet.

A New 4 Legged Friend

When I moved to El Paso my Uncle Bobby used to feed the birds in his backyard. Just one feeder with seed in it. I have kept it up but taken it to the next level times 6 or so. They were great entertainment for Uncle and now they are for my Mom. Me too to be perfectly honest. Sometimes my saving distraction from the frustrations of being a caregiver and living somewhere that I would prefer not to.

So it is no surprise that I have other visitors as well. I have 2-5 different cats that visit, because yes I did put out the buffet. Thank goodness I haven't lost too many feathered friends.

Well, now I have a new visitor to my yard. This super cute little turtle. Yesterday was the first time I saw him thanks to Mom letting me know he was on the patio. I have to tell you he/she is sooo fast. I'll pop in to get my phone or food and then he's gone. Just this morning I found him in the grass on the other side of the yard, went in to get my phone but he was gone when I got back. Not 2 minutes had passed. When I say gone I mean gone. I looked everywhere for him but he just disappeared. There is a brick edging around most of the flower beds, tree etc. He's too little to climb over them so where did he go? Well, I don't know but I hope I get to see him again. He's so adorable!

New Advent Calendar Project

I've been wanting to create some Advent Calendars since last year. I got one done for my daughter last year but not the one I had wanted for myself.

I have this idea to create one with pieces of clothing from my deceased Uncle. Like a pocket from one of his shirts or use the material from the back of the shirt in the calendar somehow. Well this one is still in the works in my head but something that I think will come to fruition very soon.

In the meantime, I've been working on another one.

This is the start of the next one with ideas floating by and working through them.

More to follow.

Disney's Aladdin Cartoon

Today I was at the car dealer getting a recall item taken care of. I decided to wait for it and went into the waiting area. They of course have a television and usually there is some show from HGTV on but not today. No, it was a news channel and as I'm sitting there they are talking about all these stabbings etc. Now mind you, I am deeply sorry that these things are taking place but as a sensitive it is not easy for me to be around much of that energy. I choose to watch things that do not have that kind affect on my energy. So that being the way it was I decided to go sit in the kids room. A room with another television, small table and chairs and a couple of chairs for the adults. Cartoons were on the television and that was just fine with me. I'm sitting there reading about a mirror less camera when it hits me that on the show they are talking about Spirit Guides.

What? On a Disney Channel? Wow! So I'm sort of watching and listening and then they break into song, of course, and it's about Spirit Guides and what they do etc.

As I sat there I thought that this could be a message from my guides that they understood why I had moved to the kids room and that they were with me.

I love that kids are hearing about Spirit Guides and things like this. I know the cartoons I watched certainly didn't address anything remotely like this.

Way to go Disney! Enjoy!
